The Fire Incident

As a dedicated damage restoration company, Florida Fire & Flood, we are no strangers to challenging situations. This case study details our comprehensive approach to a smoke and fire damage restoration in The Villages, FL that we tackled for a residential homeowner. The incident began with a fire caused by a garage door lift, which was exacerbated by the home's air conditioning system spreading soot throughout the house. The affected areas included the garage and multiple rooms, impacting floors, walls, ceilings, and various household items.

Our Immediate Response

We received the emergency call on a Sunday and immediately sprang into action. Our first step was to secure the property by boarding up the garage. We then tackled the water damage inside the house, a result of the firefighting efforts, by extracting the water and setting up drying equipment. This quick response was crucial in stabilizing the structure and preventing further damage.

The Fire and Water Restoration Process

After assessing the extent of the damage and determining insurance coverage, we initiated a thorough restoration process:

  1. Contents Salvage and Reporting: We collaborated with a contents company to identify unsalvageable items belonging to the homeowner. After documenting these items, the salvageable contents were carefully removed.
  2. Water Damage from Firefighting Efforts: Right away, we boarded up the garage and extracted water from inside the house. We set up drying equipment to stabilize the structure which helps to prevent further/worse damage from the water in the house.
  3. Demolition and Removal: Our demolition crew removed all damaged walls and ceilings in the garage and affected areas. This step was vital to prepare for the deep cleaning process.
  4. Structural Cleaning: Our fire structural cleaning team then meticulously cleaned every inch of the affected areas. Using dry (chem) sponges, we removed soot from surfaces before degreasing and deodorizing them. This included floors, walls, stud walls, ceilings, trusses, and miscellaneous items like trim, doors, hardware, mirrors, and cabinets.
  5. Ozone Treatment: At the end of each day, we used an ozone machine, strategically moving it around the house, to neutralize any lingering odors.
  6. Encapsulation: Finally, we encapsulated all walls in the garage and the trusses and roof sheathing in the attic area, ensuring a thorough seal against any residual damage.

Total Repair and Restoration

The repair phase included replacing all ductwork and the AC system in the house. Our goal was always to restore the house to its pre-damage condition. By the end of our project, not only had we achieved this, but we also left the house smelling fresh and feeling like new.

At Florida Fire & Flood, we pride ourselves on our ability to handle the most challenging restoration projects. This project in The Villages, Florida, is a testament to our commitment to restoring normalcy to our clients' lives with professionalism, efficiency, and care.
