From Flooded Floors to Fresh Starts: Restoring a Flood-Damaged Home

After Hurricane Milton hit, one local homeowner found themselves dealing with more than just a few puddles. Storm runoff from a nearby bridge caused floodwater to build up under their home. The water became stagnant, the floors started to buckle, and mold spread throughout bathrooms and bedrooms. They were planning to host Christmas at home, but the flood changed everything.

They called us at Florida Fire & Flood, and we got moving right away, tackling the water damage restoration of this flood-damaged home.

A Call from a Homeowner: A Flood-Damaged Home in Crisis

Our crew arrived within the hour. The damage was clear from the start: water under the house, soaked flooring, and visible mold on drywall. The homeowner told us their biggest concern was how long it would all take, and we totally understood. Time matters when your home and family are displaced.

We walked them through the process, stayed in touch with their insurance company, and kept them in the loop the entire time.

Step-by-Step Restoration Process

When we arrived on site, we followed a clear process to handle the damage quickly and safely. Here's how we took this flood-damaged home from soaked to fully restored.

Emergency Water Extraction

We began by pumping out all standing water beneath the home. This helped stop further damage and gave us access to inspect the foundation and subfloor.

Moisture Detection & Damage Inspection

We used moisture meters and thermal imaging to find where water had traveled inside the walls, floors, and other hidden spots.

Structural Drying & Dehumidification

After removing the water, we focused on drying out the home completely. Here's what we did:

  • Air Movers Set Up: We placed industrial fans around the home to speed up surface drying.
  • Dehumidifiers Installed: Commercial-grade units pulled moisture from the air to dry hidden spaces.
  • Daily Moisture Checks: We tracked progress with moisture meters to make sure the structure was drying safely.
  • Continuous Operation: Equipment ran nonstop for several days until moisture levels were back to normal.

Mold Removal & Disinfection

Mold had already taken hold in the bathrooms and along some bedroom walls. We removed affected drywall, treated the area with safe antimicrobial solutions, and followed strict mold remediation protocols.

Help With Insurance

We worked directly with their insurance provider, handling documentation, photos, and updates. This helped the claim move smoothly and avoided delays.

Rebuild & Renovation

Once the house was dry and mold-free, we moved on to repairs. This included new flooring, drywall, and a full kitchen renovation. The homeowner chose modern finishes to give the space a fresh, clean look.

A Safe, Rebuilt Home - Ready for What's Next

By the time we finished, the home looked brand new and felt even better. The homeowner told us they finally felt at ease and were excited to cook their first meal in their new kitchen. We were proud to help them move back into a safe, clean space they could enjoy again.
