Tackling Mold on Kitchen Cabinets in Eustis, FL

At Florida Fire & Flood, we take pride in our detailed mold remediation process. Recently, we tackled a challenging mold issue in Eustis, FL. The problem originated from a dishwasher leak in a kitchen, which led to mold growth behind and below the lower cabinets. Our team managed mold remediation, ensuring a safe and clean environment for the homeowners.

The Problem

The homeowners discovered a leak from their dishwasher, which had caused water damage. Although they couldn't see the mold, they suspected it might be present and contacted us immediately. Mold in the kitchen carries health risks and potential structural damage, requiring fast and thorough remediation. That’s where we come into play.

How We Tackled the Mold Caused by Dishwasher Leak

At Florida Fire & Flood, we follow a systematic and thorough approach to mold remediation, ensuring that every step is done with precision and care. Our goal is not only to remove the mold but also to prevent future occurrences and restore the affected area to a safe and healthy condition. Here's how we handle mold remediation from start to finish:

Step 1: Initial Inspection and Assessment

We began with a detailed inspection of the affected kitchen area. Using moisture meters and thermal imaging, we identified the extent of the water damage and mold growth. Our assessment revealed extensive mold growth behind and below the lower kitchen cabinets.

Step 2: Containment

To prevent mold spores from spreading to other parts of the house, we set up a containment area. This included sealing off the kitchen with plastic sheeting and setting up negative air pressure using air scrubbers equipped with HEPA filters.

Step 3: Removal of Affected Materials

Next, we carefully removed the lower kitchen cabinets and the affected drywall. All materials were bagged and disposed of following industry standards and local regulations to ensure that contamination stops there.

Step 4: Cleaning and Treatment

The exposed areas were then thoroughly cleaned. We used antimicrobial solutions to treat the mold-affected surfaces. After this, we covered the cleaned surfaces with a mold-resistant sealant to prevent future growth.

Step 5: HEPA Vacuuming

To ensure all mold spores were eliminated, we HEPA vacuumed the entire area. This step is important for removing any remaining spores and preventing recontamination.

Step 6: Drying and Dehumidification

We set up commercial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to dry out the area completely. Proper drying is more than important to prevent any residual moisture that could lead to future mold growth.

Current Status and Next Steps

The mold remediation phase has been completed, and the kitchen is now safe and mold-free. The project is currently in the repairs stage, where we will replace the drywall and install new cabinets. Our team will ensure that the kitchen is restored to its original condition, or better, making it both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
